About Us > Our Executive Team > Eric Wood

Eric is lauded by his business partners, Litha and Niven, as one of the "greatest trading stars in South Africa". He brings to Regiments Capital more than 20 years of experience in financial markets trading.

Born in 1963 Eric completed his articles and then started his career as a trainee bond dealer at stock broking firm, Frankel Kruger Vinderine. Here Eric established a bond option operation that grew to become the largest bond option broking business (by volume) in the South African market.

Head hunted by Investec Bank to establish their fixed income trading business in 1988, Eric developed this division to become the largest market maker of bond options and exotic fixed income derivatives in the country. With Eric’s guidance the business expanded into equity derivatives trading, fixed income and equity structuring as well as gold and Kruger Rand trading. He was subsequently approached to expand the company’s interest rate desk into trading caps, floors and swaptions in South Africa and Central Europe. Appointed to the Investec Group Strategy and Policy Committee in 1994, he was instrumental in the appointment of Investec as official market makers for South African government debt.

Eric has served as chairman of the Primary Dealers Association and was appointed to bond exchange EXCO in 1999 and 2000. In January 2002, Eric left Investec Bank to pursue new business opportunities. He subsequently set up the infrastructure of a hedge fund business for Credit Commerciae (Pty) Ltd and attracted capital for its first hedge fund. He was involved in the trading and operating of this fund until he left in 2004, (a point when Eric felt the need to re-invent himself) to establish Regiments Capital.

Executive Director

Eric Wood

Eric's vision for Regiments Capital shapes and drives the company's deliverables. He is passionately committed to their objectives of social delivery combined with best practice customer service. “Regiments Capital offers products and services which enable our clients to shine”, he says, and he and his team strive to render assistance and provide solutions which help their clients to achieve their overall goals. Regiments Capital, to Eric, is not about the brand but about the service – to the client and to the wider community. Eric's personal involvement in each project is part of this ethos and is also a key strength of this boutique company. He feels comfortable in both the forefront and developing depth within the business.

Eric believes that long-term relationships with clients is a vital part of the company's objectives, which is why he is focused on putting his head down and ensuring client satisfaction. "There is nothing stronger to build a business than repeat business," he says.

He points out that the three partners provide the most value by leading the way and by being hands on and by taking time to understand client issues and problems.

Eric describes Regiments Capital as a group of financial risk management specialists and explains that, this is the golden thread that flows through all tailored solutions on offer to the public sector clientele.  According to Eric, Regiments Capital’s differentiating factor in the market is the Group’s willingness and ability to provide assistance to its clientele through both the good and challenging times.  He prides the company on being an extension of the clients’ arsenal of expertise, knowledge and  capabilities.

Eric is married to Paula and they have one daughter, Zara. He enjoys squash and hiking, and has a passion for helicopters and motorsport. In the 1990's Eric raced in the GT supercar series. He is also a qualified helicopter pilot.
